Sunday Funday: Homemade Marshmallows

Remember when my cousin Jess graduated from MSU and I gave her this box of goodies?

Did you wonder what the little squares were on the left hand side?  Well wonder no longer, they were homemade marshmallows and today I am going to tell you how I made them.

Sunday Funday: 20 Second Icing

My new favorite icing is 20 second icing.  The name does not refer to the number of seconds used to make the icing but instead is the consistency needed for the icing to return to a smooth surface after running an object through it.  So that wasn't the best explanation... you may just need to watch the video!

Sunday Funday: Cookies on a Stick Part 1

When I was in college my grandparents sent me a cookie bouquet and I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.  Beautifully decorate cookies on stick arranged like flowers, brilliant... I wish I had thought of that!  Since then I have been creating my own version and they are easier than you would think.  It took awhile to get the technique right but now that I have it down I will share it with you!

Sunday Funday

In general I try and watch what I eat Monday-Saturday and then let myself splurge a little on Sunday.  I feel that doing this serves many purposes:

1.) I enjoy my favorite foods more by seeing them as a treat and not something that I eat every day, savor every bite

2.) I stay on track with healthy eating during the week because I know that I can "cheat" a little on Sunday

3.) I learn that there are no foods that are off limits, just limits on when I can eat them

4.) Variety is still important.  I try and make Sunday meals exciting by alternating favorite take out places with comfort food cooking or dinners out with friends

5.) Indulging on a daily basis sets us up for cravings.  Keeping less healthy foods to one day a week helps to reprogram our perceptions and respond less to cravings.
