Grapefruit, it's a love-hate relationship

Growing up my mom always had (and still does to this day) 1/2 a grapefruit with her breakfast. Parents have a great influence over what their kids eat and I, like many other little girls, wanted to be just like my mom so one day I tried grapefruit... I remember thinking how could it be possible that my mom ate this everyday and not only that but she actually liked it!

Over the years my tastes changed and I learned to like the sourest of edible citrus fruit. While it is still not my favorite I accept it into my diet because it is good for me. Nutrition, just like anything else, takes a little work and a little compromise. We all have foods that we like and foods that we don't. In some cases it is good to train ourselves to like or at least accept foods because of their nutritional value and as in my case with the grapefruit I actually started to enjoy it.
Grapefruit provides us with vitamin C but what sets it aside from it's citrus siblings and makes it worthy of making part of our everyday including? I am glad you asked! Let's take a look:

- Grapefruit can help arthritis by removing or dissolving inorganic calcium which may form in the cartilage of the joints.
- Grapefruit can help in weight loss. It's low in sodium and high in fat burning enzymes.
- Grapefruit has high water content which can help increase metabolism
- Grapefruit is a rich source of Vitamin C
- Grapefruit is rich in lycopene which helps to prevent the occurrence of tumor and cancer.
- Grapefruit is a liver tonic
- Grapefruit helps in cases of Gallstones
- Grapefruit wards off colds, pneumonia and fever
- Grapefruit helps in proper digestion of food
- Grapefruit can help improve complexion and is a natural antiseptic for wounds when used externally

Now think back to all of the over the counter and prescription medications you may take for the above ailments. Why not try a natural remedy and add grapefruit into your diet daily? Doesn't seem so difficult now does it?
